Prior to his present position, Boon Hwee was the Chairman of Singapore Airlines, Singapore Telecom and Executive Chairman of the Wuthelam Group of Companies. Before Wuthelam, Boon Hwee spent 14 years with Hewlett-Packard.

Boon Hwee was conferred The International Herald Tribune Visionary and Leader Honour in January 2003.

A distinguished corporate leader and entrepreneur, Boon Hwee also serves on the boards of Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd, Agilent Technologies, Inc. and the Hewlett Foundation. Boon Hwee also contributes actively to non-profit organisations, and is the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nanyang Technological University and director of the Singapore Harvard Foundation.

Boon Hwee was awarded the nation's (Singapore's) Public Service Star in 1991 and The Meritorious Service Medal in 1995.

Boon Hwee graduated from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree (First Class Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and from the Harvard Business School in 1976 with an MBA (Distinction).
